Analyzing Ellis Act Evictions Over Time & Ellis Act Evictions

These charts show Ellis Act evictions over time in Los Angeles City Council Districts 8 & 9 as well as in the Slauson Corridor. The Ellis Act is a California state law that allows landlords to evict tenants in rent-controlled units if the landlord is planning to go out of business. In practice, the Ellis Act is often used to convert rental units into condominiums and has resulted in the loss of tens of thousands of rent-stabilized apartments across the state.

These data were prepared to support the work of the South LA Climate Commons in their report to the Transformative Climate Communities initiative.
