Social Connectedness
Why is this important?
The social connectedness policy area contains information on resources that foster both cultural and institutional connectedness. We provide data on financial, recreational, and social service assets available within communities along with information on voter participation and linguistic isolation. While this policy area may be more difficult to concretely measure, social and institutional connectedness are vital to communities. For example, communities with very few people speaking English may have a difficult time accessing appropriate government and economic resources to help their residents and local businesses thrive. Communities without recreational assets like parks may have less opportunities to foster connections between their residents. Understanding how institutional access and cultural participation shape communities is important as we look to grow and update our institutional infrastructure in ways that work for all residents of Los Angeles County.
